Exotic Travancore
Kovalam Beach Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of Travancore. The European guests of the then Travancore kingdom discovered the potentiality of Kovalam beach as a tourist destination in the 1930s. However, Kovalam shot into limelight in the early seventies with arrivals of the masses of hippies. That started the transformation of a casual fishing village of Kerala into one of the most important tourist destinations in all India- the Kovalam beach. It is a beautiful place in Kerala.
 
Hawa Beach is actually an extension of Lighthouse Beach. The two crescent shaped beaches are separated by a rocky promontory, while Hawa Beach, in turn, is again disjoint from the third beach, Ashok, by another rocky promontory. Hawa Beach is also a favourite tourist spot and there are many shops to be found here selling jewellery, clothes, bedspreads etc.

Poovar - Coastal village, Trivandrum Poovar is a small coastal village in the Trivandrum district of Kerala state, south India. This village is almost at the southern tip of Trivandrum and there is not much distance from here to the Kerala - Tamilnadu border. This village has a beautiful beach which attracts tourists. There are also some good tourist resorts.
 
This picnic spot, where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea, offers boating facilities. Pedalboats and paddleboats can be hired to explore the charms of the lagoon in a leisurely manner. For a quick ride over the waters, speedboats are available for hire. Children enjoy climbing over the huge sculptures which dot the landscape. Ph: 2500785. Thiruvananthapuram Temple - Kulashekara Mandapam Thiruvananthapuram's most interesting temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture. It is a best example of South Indian architecture, with an impressive seven -story gopuram (tower). A flagstaff encased in gold stands in the huge courtyard. It is known for its murals and carvings. In the main courtyard, the Kulashekara mandapam, there is some intricate granite sculpture and nearly 400 pillars are supporting the temple corridors. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple and they have rules of clothing. Even the male Hindus, must enter the temple wearing only white dhoti.
 
Named after the governor general of Madras, John Napier, the Trivandrum Napier museum is located in the heart of the city. The museum is equipped with natural air conditioning and provides a glance of the rich historical legacy of Kerala. Napier museum and art gallery of Kerala are located in the same compound and the museum has a good collection of ancient archaeological artifacts. This museum was built in the 19th century. Trivandrum Zoo The Trivandrum Zoo is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city, the capital of Kerala, India. It is one among the well designed in Asia and is set amidst woodland, lakes and lawns. Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, one of the oldest in the country, was established as an annexe to the Museum (Napier Museum)in 1857 by the erstwhile Maharaja of Travancore in order to attract more visitors. This Zoo was originally set up for recreational purpose only. But with more and more loss of forest and wildlife in the process of human development, the goal of the Zoo changed from recreation to conservation. Today Zoos are seen as the last resort for endangered animals and birds.
